Liam Rosenior is taking on Arsenal tomorrow in a huge game at Stamford Bridge, not long after the recent league game between the two sides.
Rosenior was still in charge of Strasbourg back then, but he’s rewatched the game and studied it. Although he likes to keep things pretty vague, he did admit he had seen some things to potentially work on in terms of the weaknesses Arsenal have and how Chelsea matched up with them.
Rosenior admits to spotting Arsenal flaws in 1-1 draw replay
Liam Rosenior in his EFL Cup press conference.
“Yeah [I did see things]. Fundamentally, there are tactical things that happen within the game. The way you press, the way you build,” the coach admitted.
“But what I loved about that game was the intensity of our group. If you don’t have intensity, if you’re not willing to do the basics or win duels or defence that plays well, you make it very, very difficult to win.
“So we need to have a really, really good game on Wednesday. But I’m confident in the group that they’ve shown, and not just in the time before me, but in the last few days, they’re really hungry. They really believe in themselves and it’s going to be a really, really good occasion on Wednesday night.”
That’s been the theme of his pressers so far – don’t worry too much about the tactics, let’s focus on the attitude and mentality. It’s a great approach and we hop to see the payoff for it tomorrow.
In other news…
In typical managerial style, the new Chelsea boss denied that Wednesday’s game against Arsenal is the biggest of his career so far – even though it surely is, given the context. Like every coach, he insists that he wants to go game by game.
Rosenior has made it clear that his focus in the last few days has been more on attitude than tactics, but one of the players who knows him has spoken about what he’s told his attackers to do.
