Manchester United have agreed a deal with Michael Carrick with their former midfielder set to become interim coach for the rest of the season.
Carrick will replace Darren Fletcher, who has been in charge since Ruben Amorim's sacking last week.
Carrick has reportedly beaten out Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to take charge of the Old Trafford outfit for the remainder of the campaign.
The Athletic say that Carrick will be in position by the time United take on rivals Manchester City on Saturday.
Carrick spent 12 years as a player at United, winning 18 major trophies.
Since retiring, the 44-year-old spent three years in charge of Championship side Middlesbrough.
