The former FC Bayern transfer target is leaving Germany…again.
Former Bayern Munich nemesis and current RB Leipzig castoff Timo Werner is leaving Germany — hopefully with better results this time.
The 29-year-old attacker is set to transfer to the United States where he will ply his trade for the San Jose Earthquakes per Tom Bogert of The Athletic:
🚨🇩🇪 BREAKING: The San Jose Earthquakes are nearing a deal to sign forward Timo Werner from RB Leipzig, per sources.
Deal close but not 100% done. Werner would be a DP.
Werner, 29, has 57 caps with Germany. Scored 24 goals.
Sky Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg also had a report on the matter:
🚨🇺🇸 BREAKING | Understand Timo #Werner is close to reaching a full agreement with San Jose Earthquakes over a #MLS move.
A few weeks ago, a secret meeting already took place in Leipzig between representatives of the Earthquakes and Werner.
An agreement between RB Leipzig and SJ Earthquakes is not expected to be an issue if the transfer takes place in January. Werner’s contract expires at the end of the season.

Fabrizio Romano confirmed the news as well:
🚨🇺🇸 Timo Werner to San Jose Earthquakes, here we go! Deal in place for the German striker to try new chapter in MLS.
Werner leaves Leipzig and will sign at San Jose in the next days after verbal agreement reached today, as
@tombogert reports.It will be a permanent deal.
For Werner, this is likely his last chance to get his career back on track. While he has been seldom-used for RB Leipzig this season, it was always assumed that the club wanted to keep him healthy for a potential winter move. Now, it looks like that plan has come to fruition.
