The Wolves had a nightmare of a game against FC Bayern.
Bayern Munich ripped apart the visiting VfL Wolfsburg team in the first game after the winter break. Despite the opposition’s best efforts, the Bavarians proved be too much to handle causing a complete collapse in Daniel Bauer’s side. After the game, the coach was apologetic to go down in the manner that they did, a massive 8-1 defeat.
Wolfsburg manager Daniel Bauer owned the defeat and apologized to the fans (via FC Bayern).“The bottom line is it’s a very, very disappointing and very, very painful defeat. We need to apologize to our fans for the second half, who made to much effort to come and support us in this weather. We had two different halves. I think in the first we showed what we intended to do. We showed a lot of how we want to play. We were brave and implemented our game plan almost 100 percent. We need to do better with the chances we had in the first half, with the free shots from the edge of the area. You don’t get many chances against a team like Bayern. You need to take them better. The goals we conceded in the second half were sometimes far too easy.”
What could have they done differently?
With all due respect to the visitors, there really is no answer to this question. The Bavarians were simply a class above. The speed of attack and transitions were too much to stop. Die Wölfe were matching the intensity of Bayern, even surpassing them in the first half during certain phases. But once up and running, Bayern were running at a different gear and the front three were unstoppable. 47 touches in the opposition box are just too many for any defense and goalkeeper to handle. The visitors had an astounding defense chart with 28 clearances and 26 tackles, that defense worked all night, but Bayern made the difference every time they sniffed even half a chance. Vincent Kompany only needs to rest his players enough and this team is a total beast!
