About the Marcus Freeman situation…

A quick note about the Marcus Freeman situation at Notre Dame

It seemed like news was breaking all around on Sunday concerning Notre Dame football head coach Marcus Freeman and some issues with the law. The situation stems from an alleged incident at a wrestling tournament in which Marcus’s son was competing in for Penn High School. Most in the media (ourselves included) heard the news from one source or another, but chose not to run wild to the internet with minimal facts.

As most wrestling parents know, despite wrestling families being pretty awesome for the most part, emotions can run red hot on the mats and in the stands — and things can get dumb in a hurry.

The South Bend Tribune published the account in a story on Sunday.

Notre Dame released a statement in full support of Freeman a little later:

“Vinny Freeman, head coach Marcus Freeman’s son, was verbally accosted during and after his wrestling match by a local wrestling coach. Marcus and Joanna Freeman intervened and removed Vinny from the situation. At no point did Coach Freeman physically engage with anyone. We believe that the police report, which includes video evidence, fully exonerates Coach Freeman and makes clear these accusations are totally unfounded.”

It’s been a rough month for Freeman and Notre Dame, and for as much as this will get overanalyzed and used for talking heads to spout off, it really seems to be nothing more than a a bunch of overblown nonsense exacerbated by an emotionally weak loser.

Moving on…
