The next Ring card, scheduled for January 31st, features another matchup that has been highly anticipated.

One fighter likely to be watching that bout closely made a significant move forward in his career on Saturday night.

On the same card as Roman Fury’s controversial stoppage, an unusual scene unfolded during a lightweight clash, sparked by a rapid-fire combination.

Cuba’s Jadier Herrera stepped into the ring in Germany on January 10, looking to stay unbeaten and push his record to 18-0.

The 23-year-old faced Ricardo Nunes of Panama, with the interim WBC world lightweight title on the line.

Despite being knocked down during the fight, the Cuban star managed to come away with the win after a tough battle.

The stoppage came after an aggressive flurry from Herrera, who showed his confidence by continuing to throw punches even after taking some heavy shots himself.

During an attempt to step in between them, official Daniel Van de Wiele slipped and hit the canvas while reaching for Herrera. The incident did not impact the outcome, as Nunes was clearly in trouble before the fall happened.

Once Van de Wiele got back up, he confirmed that Herrera had secured another win – despite hitting a few bumps along the way.

Jadier Herrera could soon be promoted to undisputed champion

If the division was not already packed with scheduled fights, Herrera might have just punched his ticket for a shot at one of boxing’s biggest names.

Since November 2023, the WBC lightweight title has been held by Shakur Stevenson, following his victory over Edwin De Los Santos.

This month though, Stevenson is set to move up a weight class. He will be taking on Teofimo Lopez for the WBO junior welterweight title at Madison Square Garden.

If Stevenson chooses not to return to lightweight in the near future, Herrera’s recent win over Nunes might just put him in line for a world title promotion.
