FC Bayern could do with someone who has a great understanding of the sport
Thomas Müller is the epitome of Bayern Munich; he is THE Bayern Munich player. Ask someone about Bayern and chances are they’ll point to the 36-year-old. He’s currently with the Vancouver Whitecaps in the MLS but if he were to conclude his playing career, he is very much welcome back at his boyhood club.
“I have a lot of respect for Thomas. He called me before he came to the stadium [for the game against Mainz], and I spontaneously invited him to the VIP section. I was absolutely delighted that he was there,” Bayern CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen said (via t-online journo Julian Buhl as captured by Abendzeitung). “And I would very much like him to play a role for us someday – an important role. He still wants to play, as he’s said several times. And that’s a good thing, because when you talk to him, you can still feel that fire to be on the pitch. He has so much time ahead of him, and he will always have a place with us at FC Bayern.”
Müller extended his contract with the Whitecaps and signed on to become a commentator at the upcoming World Cup in North America. He’s still a busy man, which Dreesen and Bayern understand. “Thomas now has a new season ahead of him in Vancouver, and after the Whitecaps’ loss to Inter Miami in the final, he’s facing another big challenge. He knows his importance to FC Bayern, and he also knows that our doors are always open for him. He’s taking this time for himself, and that’s perfectly fine.”
