The 2024 Indy NXT championship runner-up will make his LMP2 debut at Daytona
Era Motorsport confirmed the arrival of Jacob Abel for Endurance Cup rounds for the 2026 season in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship.
Abel, 24, will co-drive the team’s No. 18 ORECA 07 LMP2 alongside Naveen Rao and Ferdinand Habsburg for all of the endurance rounds, with former Formula 1 driver Logan Sargeant also part of the line-up for the season-opening Rolex 24 at Daytona.
A rookie in the IndyCar Series last year with Dale Coyne Racing, Abel is currently getting LMP2 experience in the Asian Le Mans Series with Vector Sport RLR.
“I can’t wait to get going in Daytona with the Era Motorsport group,” said Abel, the 2024 Indy NXT championship runner-up. “It’s been a fun experience learning prototype racing, and I’m excited to take on the challenge of some of the most prestigious endurance races in the world. It’s an honor to complete such a strong driver lineup with a team that has been so successful in LMP2.”
Abel has one previous start in IMSA’s top flight, which came back in 2021 at Laguna Seca running an Acura NSX GT3 Evo with Compass Racing in the Grand Touring Daytona (GTD) class.
"Jacob’s history in open-wheel racing is going to make him a fantastic final addition to our 2026 lineup,” said team owner Kyle Tilley.
“We couldn’t be happier to welcome someone bringing his experience and racecraft to endurance racing, and as always, it is a joy to help foster that talent in young drivers.”
