Blackburn Rovers have signed Brighton & Hove Albion defender Eiran Cashin on loan until the end of the season.

The 24-year-old made 11 Championship appearances for Birmingham City in the first half of the campaign but has had his loan spell cut short to join Rovers.

The former Republic of Ireland Under-21 international, who joined Brighton from Derby last January, could make his Blackburn debut against Hull City in the FA Cup on Sunday.

"I've played in the Championship a lot, I've played a few games recently and I feel fit and feel ready," he told the club website.

Cashin arrives at Ewood Park as manager Valerien Ismael is dealing with a number of injury issues in defence.

Scott Wharton (Achilles), Hayden Carter (calf) and Matty Litherland (hamstring) are currently absent.

Full-back Ryan Alebiosu has also sustained a leg injury while on international duty with Nigeria at the Africa Cup of Nations.
