The Giants traveled to South Korea this week and expressed a strong interest in playing future international games in Seoul.
Good morning, baseball fans!
Representatives of the San Francisco Giants headed to Seoul, South Korea this week. The team’s envoy included owner Larry Baer, President of Baseball operations Buster Posey, GM Zack Minasian, Manager Tony Vitello, as well as Jung Hoo Lee and Willy Adames to represent the players.
The group toured local areas of significance to the team and to Lee himself, and held a press conference yesterday, per reporting from Yonhap of The Korea Times. During the conference, all members representing the organization expressed strong interest from the team in playing future international games in Seoul.
Baer noted his hope that the organization can partner with South Korean businesses to bring their presence to Oracle Park. Posey added how special he felt to be able to take part in the trip, sharing admiration for the country’s passion for the sport.
Baer did note one barrier to the Giants getting to play in Seoul, saying:
“There’s a selection process because all 30 teams, to some degree, have a rotation, and we have played some international games, most recently in Mexico City, so we have not heard when the next game could be. But we’d be very interested in coming to Seoul to play a game in the near future.”
So while there’s nothing concrete on the table, it’s likely that the team will do their best to make an international game in South Korea happen. And I think fans in both countries will look forward to that day when it gets here.
