Former Cincinnati quarterback Brendan Sorsby, the No. 1 overall player in the NCAA transfer portal, is staying in the Big 12 after committing to Texas Tech over LSU, he told ESPN on Sunday.

Sorsby’s decision followed official visits to Lubbock on Friday and Baton Rouge on Saturday, with Texas Tech’s facilities, program culture and recent on-field success helping seal the deal. 

The move represents another major portal win for the Red Raiders, who parlayed aggressive roster building into their first Big 12 championship and a College Football Playoff appearance this season.

One of the nation’s most productive dual-threat quarterbacks, Sorsby earned second-team All-Big 12 honors in 2025 after throwing for 2,800 yards and 27 touchdowns while adding 580 rushing yards and nine scores. He now projects as one of the top quarterbacks in the country entering the 2026 season and a potential early standout in the 2027 NFL Draft class.

Texas Tech has gained a reputation as one of college football’s most aggressive spenders in the NIL era, and Sorsby was widely viewed as the top quarterback on the market. 

While financial details were not disclosed, his commitment further signals Texas Tech’s rise as a national contender following its historic season.
