Golden Knights reach new low with overtime loss to Blackhawks

The Vegas Golden Knights have officially hit rock bottom.

On Sunday, the Golden Knights’ recent skid hit five games with a 3-2 overtime loss to the Chicago Blackhawks

In the first period, one of the makeshift lines from roster changes made good on their chance. Alexander Holtz and Brett Howden worked together to get the puck out in front of the net, which was found by Brandon Saad. After struggling to finish throughout this season, Saad was finally able to get the puck past Arvid Soderblom to put the Golden Knights on the board first.

Two minutes later, however, the resilience of the Golden Knights was put to the test. Taking advantage of a screen, Tyler Bertuzzi fired a shot that beat Akira Schmid for his 20th goal of the year.

In the first minute of the second period, the Golden Knights received an instance of the puck luck they have been lacking. A pass from Jack Eichel could not find its way to Ivan Barbashev, but the block ended up ricocheting the puck to Mark Stone. The captain would end up beating Soderblom, continuing his hot streak with goals in four straight games.

However, the momentum would come to a screeching halt in the third period. With eight minutes left, a pass found its way through the Golden Knights defense and found Bertuzzi beside the net. He was able to bury it past Schmid for his second of the game, tying it for the Blackhawks.

Heading into overtime, the bottom fell out when Bertuzzi sealed the deal for the Blackhawks. Despite checking for offsides, the goal stood, and the struggles for the Golden Knights reached a new low.
