Heracles Almelo are loaning Stijn Bultman to De Graafschap next season. The Almelo club certainly see potential in the 20-year-old defender, but understand that he won’t get gametime this term.
Bultman’s breakthrough came in the 2023-24 season, where he made 14 Eredivisie appearances, eleven of which as a starter. The Raalte-born central defender missed the first half of last season due to a knee injury. He was no longer part of Erwin van de Looi’s plans for the second half of the season.
Even under new manager Bas Sibum, he seemed unlikely to get much playing time. According to technical director Nico-Jan Hoogma, this is due to stiff competition.
“At this stage of his career, however, it’s important that he gets plenty of playing time. That will be difficult at Heracles Almelo now that Damon Mirani and Ivan Mesik have become two established names in central defence over the past season.”
Nevertheless, Heracles still see potential in him. “It’s very good for Stijn’s development that he’s going to De Graafschap for a year. We see Stijn as a player with a lot of potential; it’s no wonder he’s played for so many senior teams.”
