With a jump of 145.5 metres, Austrian Stephan Embacher broke the hill record in Germany's Garmisch-Partenkirchen during the large hill qualification on Wednesday.

The previous record of 145 metres belonged to compatriot Michael Hayböck.

Embacher, however, missed out on the top spot because he was unable to land cleanly in this distance range and therefore received a large point deductions in the style marks.

He had to settle for third, 7.4 points behind leader Domen Prevc of Slovenia.

In Thursday's large hill, Prevc is chasing his second win in the tournament after he started it with a victory in Oberstdorf on Monday.
