Leeds United have taken nine points from their last five games – an unbeaten December run that included fixtures against Chelsea, Liverpool and Sunderland – and now head to Merseyside, hoping to keep their momentum rolling into the New Year as they once more face the Reds, this time at Anfield.
On Sunday, the Whites made the trip to Wearside to face fellow promoted side Sunderland. Leeds controlled the game and scored a remarkable team goal to earn a well-deserved 1-1 draw against the Black Cats. That goal, just the second in the Premier League this season to feature eleven players, ended with a Brenden Aaronson assist and a Dominic Calvert-Lewin finish.
That is, of course, how many of Leeds’ goals have finished lately. The England international has now netted 7 times in six consecutive matches, the best streak of his career and United’s Premier League history! The previous weekend, the striker’s brace propelled the Whites to a 4-1 victory against Crystal Palace, who to that point boasted the best away record in the division.
In their three matches prior, United scored seven goals in an emphatic 3-1 victory over Chelsea and deserved draws against Premier League champions Liverpool on home soil and in the capital against Brentford.
It was a very merry December for the Whites and they will look to start 2026 on the front foot against the Reds on Thursday evening!
Daniel Farke’s team are currently 16th in the table after the first 18 matches and now face the side they twice came back against in December to earn a thrilling 3-3 draw.
Since that match, the Reds have begun to find their form. They have won three straight matches in the league, including victories against Tottenham Hotspur and Brighton, and defeated Italian giants Inter Milan narrowly in the Champions League. This previous weekend, Liverpool hung on to claim victory against bottom-of-the-table Wolves.
Over the years, there have been many memorable encounters between the two teams. Leeds and Liverpool have faced off against one another 122 times, with the Whites winning 28 and drawing 31 of those matches.
It was Ao Tanaka with the heroics at Elland Road in December and most memorably in recent fixtures at Anfield, Crysencio Summerville, whose 89th minute goal secured all three points for the Whites in a 2022 thriller.
Action from Anfield gets underway at 5:30pm and you can follow all the action across leedsunited.com, as well as on LUTV.

Speaking exclusively to Premier League Productions, defender Jaka Bijol said: “We are in [a good run] of results and now we are just looking forward to the Liverpool game and just hope to continue with that.
“We have a really good energy at the moment. Just good performances on the pitch and it shows on the results at the end of the day.
“The results are there but I think it is more like of the performance of the team and the energy that we have, the tactical decisions, of course, of the manager and just all is coming together a little bit.”
