Steve Sarkisian had great things to say about Bryce Underwood and Arch Manning ahead of the Michigan vs. Texas Citrus Bowl.
The Citrus Bowl has an exciting quarterback matchup with Michigan’s Bryce Underwood and Texas’ Arch Manning set to square off.
Ahead of the Michigan-Texas tilt, Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian spoke highly of both Underwood and Manning.
“I would say for Bryce, this is somebody that we evaluated really hard coming out of high school. It is really hard to play quarterback at this level,“ Sarkisian said. ”Maybe at different levels it is a little easier, but at the level that we compete at, as a true freshman, and do it at a high level, that is really hard to do. We are talking about Arch. Arch is in year three. Bryce, to go win nine games as a true freshman at quarterback, I get there’s going to be some adversity along the way throughout a season as a true freshman quarterback, but the stick-to-itiveness for him. Obviously a very gifted, very talented young man.”
Something that also resonated positively with Sarkisian is seeing how Manning and Underwood interacted with one another at a Citrus Bowl event on Sunday. Underwood and Manning were pictured on a roller coaster together.
“I thought it was great yesterday. We had an event together with both teams at the Fun Spot with the youth of the community of Orlando. There is Bryce and Arch and they are having a great time. Just two young guys that are enjoying an amusement park,” Sarkisian said.“Neither of them are bigger than what people want to make them out to be. They are both young men working hard. They are not perfect and trying to get better. But that to me was indicative of who they are as people, and I think that is probably the more important thing.”
On the season, Underwood has thrown for nine touchdowns, six interceptions, with 2,229 yards passing while completing 61.1% of his passes. Underwood has also rushed for 323 yards and five scores. Manning has a 61.4 completion rate with 2,942 passing yards, 24 passing touchdowns and seven interceptions, along with 244 rushing yards and eight scores. While numerous players will be sitting out the Citrus Bowl for both Texas and Michigan, it’s great to see that Underwood and Manning will be playing. Perhaps they’ll play again next year in the College Football Playoff?
