The Los Angeles Chargers have waived offensive tackle Savion Washington.
After recently signing veteran running back Nyheim Hines, the Los Angeles Chargers needed to clear a spot on the 90-man roster to make room for him. They did that by waiving undrafted offensive lineman Savion Washington.
Washington was waived with a failed physical designation and will now revert to waivers, free to be claimed by any other team.
Washington played at Kent State, Colorado and Syracuse during his college career, appearing in 44 games. He was part of the Chargers' undrafted class following this year's NFL Draft, but he will end up not playing a down for the team, even in the preseason.
Washington was facing long odds to make the team as the Chargers have a solid offensive line group, so he was likely looking at a role on the team's practice squad, at best. He had begun camp on the PUP list with an undisclosed injury, but after the signing of Hines, the team needed to make a corresponding move.

Hines will join an active running back room, looking to get back into the league after two full seasons away. He has also played for the Indianapolis Colts and Buffalo Bills and was signed by the Cleveland Browns ahead of last season, but ended up never playing for the team.
A crafty veteran who could give the Bolts a big boost in the return game, Hines' strength is as a receiver out of the backfield. Still, he has his work cut out for him if he wants to make the team.
