A fire broke out at NASCAR star Denny Hamlin’s North Carolina home, sending two people to the hospital.
The fire was reported around 6:19 p.m. local time on Sunday, December 28, Chief David Toomey of the Lucia Riverbend Fire Department told The Athletic.
While the identities of the two individuals have not been released, it was reported that they were outside the home when emergency personnel arrived at the scene.
Forty to 45 percent of the home was ablaze when officials got to the site with flames “bursting from the roof and side of the building” at 9:30 p.m., according to The Athletic. Multiple fire departments responded to the scene due to a lack of fire hydrants in the area, Toomey said.
The house was deemed a total loss around 11:20 p.m., Toomey said per The Atlantic.
Hamlin and his fiancée, Jordan Fish, share daughters Taylor, 12, and Molly, 7, and 6-month-old son Jameson.
“They had some really expensive cars in the garage and some racing memorabilia and stuff, so all that was saved,” Toomey told The Athletic. “We were able to save all that and get it out so it wasn’t damaged.”
