Madison Booker reached 1,500 career points for the Longhorns.
The No. 2 Texas Longhorns (15-0) handily outplayed the Southeastern Louisiana Lady Lions (2-8) on Sunday at the Moody Center to extend their undefeated record thanks to the 120-38 victory as seven players scored in double figures for the Horns.
Senior center Kyla Oldacre led the charge with 22 points while junior wing Madison Booker followed closely behind with 20 points, reaching 1,500 career points in the process. Sophomore guard Jordan Lee took aim with 16 points alongside junior forward Breya Cunningham notched 12 points. Preston knocked down 12 points while Carlton and Judd were the other Longhorns to hit double figures with 10 points apiece.
Defensively, Cunningham was the team’s rebounding leader with 10 boards to complete the double-double, helping the team to a total of 50 rebounds. Texas succeeded in sharing the ball with a total of 27 assists while forcing 30 SLU turnovers to highlight the depth of the their lineup.
In the opening period, the Longhorn defense held the lady Lions just to 6 points and forcing 11 turnovers while Texas hit 68.4 percent from the field. Sophomore forward Justice Carlton led the Longhorns with nine of her 10 points while tossing 3 assists and nabbing 2 steals ending the first quarter, 30-6. In the second quarter, the Lady Lions were able to get a little bit of motion, but still turned the ball over nine times to the Texas defense. Oldacre held don the paint with eight points and 3 boards while guard Ashton Judd came of the bench helping Texas out with eight points, four rebounds, and two assists. The Longhorns hit 55.2 percent from the field in the second period to go into the half, 70-20.
In the third period, Longhorns went into overdrive, hitting 86.7 percent from the field, 60.0 percent from beyond the arc, and made all their free throws. Texas’ defense forced five turnovers while Oldacre took charge, nabbing another eight points as senior point guard Rori Harmon made noise knocking down seven points with two rebounds and two assists. Lee closed out the third quarter hitting a three to collect eight points with tw0 assists to go into the final quarter, 105-28.
In the fourth and final period, the Longhorn defense held the Lady Lions to 38.5-percent shooting from the field and forced five turnover. Sophomore guard Bryanna Preston led the Texas offense with six points and two assists.
Texas rings in the New Year by opening with conference play against Missouri in Columbia, with the tip at 6:30 p.m. Central on SEC Network.
