Bengals make $50K Trey Hendrickson decision amid training camp holdout

Hendrickson hasn't shown up yet.

The Cincinnati Bengals made the obvious next choice in the Trey Hendrickson contract negotiations.

On Wednesday, the Bengals officially placed Hendrickson on the reserve/did not report list.

Hendrickson's placement on that list allows the Bengals to fine him $50,000 for each day he is absent from training camp (although some teams in the past have chosen to not enforce these fines).

The star defensive end is reportedly in Jacksonville, Florida, away from the team as camp gets underway.

Hendrickson is due to make $16 million on the final year of his contract in 2025, and he wants much more than that.

So far, it doesn't seem like the Bengals and their star defender have come that close to a deal.

It'll be interesting to see whether the pressure of the season approaching leads to compromise or leads to more hard feelings.

Hendrickson has 17.5 sacks in each of the past two seasons and is the clear leader of Cincinnati's defense. Without him, they are in much worse shape, and that's even when considering that their defense was poor last year.

In the meantime, Hendrickson isn't in town, and the Bengals can fine him if they want. There's much more still to come in this saga.
