The former Kentucky offensive coordinator has completely turned around the Jaguars.
There are many head coaches in the NFL who are worthy of winning Coach of the Year this season.
Perhaps former Kentucky Wildcats offensive coordinator Liam Coen is the most deserving of them all.
Coen has completely turned around the Jacksonville Jaguars this season. In doing so, he made history during Sunday’s road win over the Indianapolis Colts.
Coen is now the only first-year head coach in NFL history to win 12-plus games after taking over a team that had four or fewer wins in the prior season.
It’s really impressive what Coen has done in Jacksonville. The Jaguars aren’t the easiest organization to be the head coach for, but Coen has flipped the culture and made Trevor Lawrence the most ascending quarterback in the NFL.
Even when the Jaguars lost three out of four games following a 4-1 start, they responded by winning seven straight heading into Week 18. Now, with a win at home against the Tennessee Titans next Sunday, the Jaguars will win the AFC South at 13-4. They are still in the running to be the No. 1 seed in the AFC.
Of note, the Jaguars are one of three teams in the AFC and one of four teams in the NFL to have never been to the Super Bowl.
The Jaguars aren’t just 12-4 because they have feasted on a third-place schedule this season. They have wins over the Houston Texans, San Francisco 49ers, Kansas City Chiefs, Los Angeles Chargers, Indianapolis (twice), and Denver.
This is a team that can win the AFC. Liam Coen deserves a ton of consideration to win Coach of the Year.
