Packers clear logjam by converting one wide receiver to defense in position change

Bo Melton's move is official.

The Green Bay Packers hinted at the move during training camp.

Now, the surprising position change is complete.

Green Bay wideout Bo Melton is a wide receiver no longer. Melton will play cornerback going forward.

He's also changed his number, from 80 to 16. That's the number that his brother, Max, wears for the Cardinals. Max is a cornerback.

Bo Melton was looking at an impossible-to-break-into depth chart at WR this summer.

The Packers have four returning veteran contributors: Romeo Doubs, Jayden Reed, Christian Watson and Dontayvion Wicks. Then they drafted two wideouts in the first three rounds: Matthew Golden and Savion Williams.

That all adds up to a group that Melton would've struggled to get into.

Instead, he'll play corner.

That might be the biggest position of need for the Packers as they start training camp. If Melton looks comfortable out there, he really could make the team.

Green Bay wouldn't mind stumbling into a successful corner in an unusual way, that's for sure.
