Let’s end the season on a positive note
The Minnesota Golden Gophers (7-5) will close out the season against the New Mexico Lobos (9-3) in the Rate Bowl on Friday, Dec. 26, at 3:30 pm. CST.
The game will be televised on ESPN.
This Week’s Thoughts:
gopherguy05:Which streak is stronger: P.J. Fleck and Minnesota winning any bowl game they play in, or the Gophers not being able to win away from Huntington Bank Stadium? I’ll take the former, as it appears most of the defense will play, and a Darius Taylor/Drake Lindsey combo is enough to extend the bowl win streak against a good New Mexico team.
Blake: See my opponent preview.
Ustreet: I still don’t know who they’re playing, but P.J. does well in bowl games.
zipsofakron: Drake is back, the entire defense is back (is that a good thing?), and P.J. is undefeated in bowl games. New Mexico will be taking it seriously, so I think it will be tight late until Minnesota turns a turnover into a touchdown to ice things.
mowe0018: In a season full of the typical P.J. cliches (getting whooped by Iowa, doing things at Minnesota that no one has done in a long time (e.g., undefeated at home), etc.), it would only be fitting if the season ended in the ultimate PJ cliche: Winning a meaningless mid-tier bowl game.
WhiteSpeedReceiver:Look, there’s no reason to watch this. It’s a dumb bowl game in a baseball stadium against a middling opponent that we don’t really care about. Nebraska should be here and we should be in Vegas in a different bowl game we shouldn’t care about. But we’re going to win, I’m going to watch, and somebody is going to have a performance that’ll lead all of us to overhype them going into next season. Row the Boat, Ski-U-Mah, Go Gophers.
