Braves News: Merry Christmas, Offseason dam break coming, more

Atlanta Braves news and notes from Wednesday

Let’s start with a Merry Christmas from everyone at Battery Power. We hope you have a wonderful day with your loved ones whether and/or however you celebrate!

Well the dam hasn’t quite broken yet on the bulk of the offseason free agent and trade markets, as this has been a uniquely slow year so far. We are into the informal holiday freeze now, with baseball executives, agents, and players, hopefully taking some time to spend with their families. There will be at least some movement soon, however, with posting deadlines coming up for Tatsuya Imai and Kazuma Okamoto right in the beginning of January. Those will be two significant pieces off the market and the rest of the market has to move sometime. While there probably won’t be movement on Christmas day, perhaps there will be some stirring between Christmas and New Years, and we should certainly expect it as we move into January.

MLB News

We did have a fairly significant Christmas Eve signing, as the Marlins of all teams signed Pete Fairbanks to a 1 year deal with $11 million guaranteed and potentially worth up to $13 million. I would have strongly preferred this deal for Atlanta to the deal they gave Robert Suarez, but perhaps they can trade for Fairbanks at the deadline now, as that seems like what Miami is setting up for.
