Bayern Munich’s Christoph Freund waiting on Max Eberl’s approval on Midtjylland’s Franculino Djú

Franculino Djú is still very much on the radar for FC Bayern for next summer.

The Bayern Munich front office has already said not to expect a very busy January transfer window bar a small handful of players that could potentially leave the club. Vincent Kompany, Max Eberl, Christoph Freund, Jan-Christian Dreesen and the rest of Bayern’s front office and supervisory board are pleased with the way the squad is right now – also keeping in mind that they still get to welcome Jamal Musiala back into the squad next year after Alphonso Davies has only just made his return, likewise Hiroki Ito.

Even still, the squad planning is a constantly moving, high speed train at a club like Bayern and the front office is always hard at work in terms of keeping their eyes and ears open to adequate opportunities. In attack, Bayern won’t always have the luxury of having Harry Kane as a striker, not far removed from a well-decorated tenure from Robert Lewandowski, who broke the Bundesliga’s single-season scoring record with his 41 goals in the 2020/21 season.

As such, per information from Sky Sport journalist Florian Plettenberg, Freund is still very much in the camp of wanting to make a move for FC Midtjylland striker Franculino Djú, who he wanted Bayern to sign towards the end of the summer transfer window. Of course, Bayern wound up getting the Nicolas Jackson loan deal from Chelsea over the line just before the deadline, but Freund is still keen on Djú, especially given the uncertainty of Jackson’s future at Bayern after this season concludes. As far as things stand right now, Eberl’s decision on Djú will be crucial in terms of whether or not they make a serious move for him next summer or not.

There is also interest in TSG Hoffenheim’s Fisnik Asllani from Bayern, who is presumably higher on the transfer target list than Djú is, though he would be a more expensive option. Even still, either Asllani or Djú would be much cheaper than the purchase option of roughly €65 million that’s in Jackson’s loan deal from Chelsea.

So far this season, Djú has been on fire. He’s tallied 21 goals and 3 assists from a total of 30 appearances across all competitions as FC Midtjylland sit in second place in the Danish SuperLiga. His current contract with the Ulvene runs through June 2029 and he is currently valuated at 22 million euros via Transfermarkt.
