Kansas City Chiefs coach, Andy Reid, has weighed in on the possibility of Travis Kelce retiring in the near future.
Andy Reid has weighed in on the possibility of Travis Kelce retiring in the near future.
The Kansas City Chiefs head coach admitted he has no insight into Kelce's plans, as he has yet to have a conversation with the star tight end on the matter.
Travis Kelce has previously stated that he intends to make a decision about his future before NFL free agency opens next year.
Coach Andy Reid Says He Is Yet To Speak To Travis Kelce About His Plans
The football season is nearing its conclusion, and for the Chiefs, it will culminate in a January 4 clash against the Raiders.
Before then, the Chiefs will meet the Broncos at Arrowhead Stadium on Boxing Day, a game that has fueled speculation it could be the final appearance for the team's talisman, Kelce.
However, Kelce has not disclosed if he intends to retire, and head coach Andy Reid has now also indicated he remains unaware of what the star tight end plans to do next.
"I don't know if it is," Reid said when asked by reporters about the possibility of the Broncos game being Kelce's last.
Reid then shifted the focus to Kelce's achievements during his more than a decade-long tenure with the Chiefs, after admitting he has yet to speak with the player about his future plans.
"I think his numbers, and personality, the person, I think speaks for themselves. Phenomenal person. Great for the community, has been great for the community. He's everything you want from a player representing an organization," the head coach noted.
Travis Kelce's Team Failed To Reach The Playoffs
Rumors of retirement first began to swirl after the Chiefs lost the Super Bowl to the Eagles last season in a 40-22 rout.
However, in February, Kelce clarified that he would be returning for the 2025 season, a campaign in which the team has underperformed by its own high standards.
The Chiefs failed to reach the playoffs for the first time in 11 years and currently sit at 6–9. They are third in the AFC West and 10th in the AFC overall.
While the team's numbers have been disappointing, Kelce has enjoyed a strong individual season, recording 68 receptions for 803 yards.
He has also scored five touchdowns, two more than he managed last season.
When Will Travis Kelce Make A Decision About His Retirement?
Chiefs' fans and other curious football enthusiasts would not have to wait long for Kelce's decision, as he has since set a timeline for when he plans to make it public.
Last month, he revealed that he would decide before NFL free agency opens, adding that in the meantime, he would not be thinking about it.
"I want to give the Chiefs a good opportunity, whether I come back or not -- or whether they want me back or not," Kelce shared during an interview, per ESPN.
He added, "I'd like to make that decision before they've got to get draft picks and free agency opens to fill the roster appropriately."
"All that will be at the end of the season. I won't be thinking about it until then," Kelce also remarked.
Travis Kelce Is Not Interested In A 'Farewell Tour'
When Kelce ultimately retires, he intends not to go out with a farewell tour, the likes of which basketball star Kobe Bryant had with his Los Angeles Lakers team.
No," Kelce said when asked if he wanted a tour sometime last month. "I love Kobe, man. I love Kobe. I love everything about him, man. But that's not me. I like to take it day by day, year by year, and just evaluate it like that."
Away from football, wedding plans are also occupying Kelce's thoughts following his engagement to long-time superstar partner Taylor Swift in August.
The Football Star's Alleged Wedding Date Has Been Revealed
While most details of the ceremony have been kept tightly guarded, sources have previously claimed the couple has settled on Saturday, June 13, 2026, as their intended wedding date, per Page Six.
The date is reportedly significant to Swift, who was said to be so determined to marry on that day that she paid a substantial sum to compensate another bride who had already booked the same venue.
Several locations are understood to be under consideration, including the Ocean House, Swift's Rhode Island estate, and even a private island in the Caribbean.
