The Bush’s Boca Raton Bowl of Beans delivered late drama on Tuesday night, but the lasting image from Louisville’s 27-22 win over Toledo had little to do with the final score.

The Louisville Cardinals appeared to have the game in hand after building an 18-point second-half lead, only to watch the Toledo Rockets storm back with 19 fourth-quarter points. After Toledo pulled within five with 2:30 remaining, Louisville turned to running back Keyjuan Brown to run down the clock.

Brown delivered by ripping off runs of 17 and 14 yards. But on the second carry, he absorbed a violent hit near Louisville’s sideline that sent him sprawling into the bench area. Cardinals players immediately took exception, and tensions boiled over into a bench-clearing brawl that engulfed dozens of players from both teams.

The refs and coaches rushed in to separate the sides as the scrum stretched across the field, briefly took over what had been one of the bowl season’s more entertaining games.

Before the chaos, Brown finished with 112 yards on 15 carries, while quarterback Miller Moss threw two touchdown passes late. Louisville coach Jeff Brohm leaned on the ground game to close it out after the delay, securing the Cardinals’ victory in a game that will be remembered as much for its fight as its finish with a big bowl of baked beans.
