Yankees' Latest Pitching Rumor Will Have Fans Furious

New York Yankees fans will not like this latest rumor about their pitching staff.

The New York Yankees have been mostly silent this offseason, making a few ancillary moves here and there but not doing anything of any real significance.

Yankees fans are growing impatient as we inch closer and closer toward the new year without any serious action, and after Jack Curry's latest report on YES Network's "Yankees Hot Stove," the Bronx faithful are going to be even more irritated.

While New York has been linked to a bevy of starting pitching options this winter, ranging from Tatsuya Imai to Freddy Peralta to Sandy Alcantara, Curry has reported that the Yankees are actually satisfied rolling with Ryan Yarbrough as the fifth starter until Carlos Rodon returns.

New York will be without both Rodon and Gerrit Cole to begin the 2026 campaign. Rodon is recovering from an elbow cleanout while Cole is still working his way back from Tommy John surgery.

In the meantime, the Yanks' starting rotation consists of Max Fried, Cam Schlittler, Will Warren, Luis Gil and Yarbrough.

While Fried was brilliant in 2025 and Schlittler looks like a bona fide stud, the rest of the rotation is full of question marks, which is why many have been expecting the Yankees to swing a big deal for a starting pitcher at some point this offseason.

Curry seems to be remaining steadfast in his report that New York does not seem to be viewing that with a sense of urgency, which falls in line with Hal Steinbrenner recently saying that he loved the team's starting pitching staff.

Of course, none of this means the Yankees won't make a move. You can bet that Brian Cashman is working the phones trying to find something, but perhaps New York won't be willing to pay what it feels is an extravagant cost to land another arm.

That means not giving Imai $200 million and not surrendering multiple top prospects in exchange for Peralta, Alcantara or other rumored names.

This honestly sounds like a disaster waiting to happen.

Cole is 35 years old, is coming off of a major procedure and has not pitched a full season since 2023. Rodon may not have had Tommy John, but surgery is surgery.

Schlittler looked brilliant in 2025, but he only made 16 starts being regular season and playoffs. Warren had some rough showings against top competition. Gil's strikeout rate plummeted and he saw a dip in velocity. He also made just 11 starts after missing a chunk of the year with a lat injury.

Yarbrough was definitely impressive during his time as a starter in 2025, but can anyone really expect him to replicate that?

The Yankees need some insurance in their rotation. Not just that, but they need another frontline hurler to contend with teams like the Toronto Blue Jays and Los Angeles Dodgers.

Basically, the Bronx Bombers need to do something this offseason. Sitting on their hands will not deliver a championship. Or anything remotely close to it.
