Greg Biffle and his family’s holiday card was received by a friend just days after their tragic death.

Greg, 55, his wife Cristina Grossu Biffle, 35, and their two children, Emma, 14, and Ryder, 5, were killed when their plane crashed on Dec. 18 at Statesville Regional Airport in North Carolina. Commercial airline pilot Dennis Dutton, his son Jack and Craig Wadsworth also died in the crash.

The late NASCAR champion’s friend, Ron Herbert, shared on Sunday, Dec. 21, that he found the family’s holiday card in his mailbox.

“I received this in the mail today. My words can't say enough about the family🙏🙏 🥲🥲,” Herbert’s Instagram post read.

The holiday card featured the family of four smiling, looking lovingly at one another as they embraced. "We hope that you are able to slow down and enjoy the magic and joy that this season has to offer. We hope you have a great New Year! Sending love, Greg, Cristina, Emma & Ryder," the card read.

In the days before the fatal plane crash, Greg was promoting his “Biffmas” daily holiday giveaway of cash and other prizes. Cristina was also working to send out Santa’s letters to children, her mother, Cathy Grossu, told PEOPLE.

Cathy also shared that just before the family’s crash, Cristina texted her mother from the plane and wrote, "We're in trouble."

"That was it," Cathy tearfully said. "So we're devastated. We're brokenhearted."

“I cannot believe they're gone,” Cathy said. “I don't remember those last words and that's going to haunt me. But they were happy."

At the time of the accident, the family was heading out for a "birthday trip" in Sarasota, Fla., to visit Greg's friend Cleetus McFarland (real name Garrett Mitchell).

The two became friends after connecting during the Hurricane Helene relief efforts. Eventually, they became inseparable, spending time together each month over the last year, and as McFarland’s profile grew in racing circles, Greg served as his mentor.

The rookie stock car driver shared his memories of Greg in an emotional tribute on Sunday, Dec. 21.

“The last year and a half with him has been some of the greatest moments of my life. I am lucky to have had him as a mentor, and a close friend,” McFarland wrote in the video’s caption. “We love you guys so much and it's an absolute tragedy we had to lose the Biffles like this."
