Liverpool's downfall in the 2025-26 season was something that nobody expected.

The fact that Arne Slot managed to win the Premier League title at the first time of asking was impeccable with many fans thinking that they'd be unstoppable this term.

Unfortunately, that hasn't been the case and with Alexander Isak's latest injury set to keep him side-lined for a few months, Slot's options among his ranks are getting thinner as the weeks go on.

And, even though Slot may only have 12 senior players to choose from at the moment, it could work out better for Liverpool as it will force the Dutchman into making a decision that could take the Reds up another gear or two.

The number of injuries that Liverpool have sustained this season is unbelievable.

Granted, the Reds don't have an incredible amount of depth among their ranks but the fact that players such as Alexander Isak and Jeremie Frimpong have already spent weeks on the sidelines is a tad concerning.

However, with all the players who aren't likely to feature against Wolves, it feels like Slot is going to be forced into playing Liverpool in a 3-5-2 formation.

And, with the Reds only having 12 senior outfield players to choose from, the formation that makes the most sense is the 3-5-2.

Their starting XI is likely to be Alisson; Ibrahima Konate, Virgil van Dijk, Andy Robertson; Frimpong, Curtis Jones, Ryan Gravenberch, Alexis Mac Allister, Milos Kerkez; Florian Wirtz, Hugo Ekitike.

So, with this in mind, a three at the back formation makes complete sense.

Federico Chiesa is set to be left out by Arne Slot once again

If the aforementioned formation is how Slot lines his men up against Wolves, it means that Federico Chiesa will miss out on yet another Premier League start.

When brought on, the forward has always had a massive impact on the game with the 27-year-old often giving Liverpool something that they've been missing all season.

However, for one reason or another, Slot doesn't seem to trust the former Juventus man.

If Slot chooses against lining his starting XI up in a 3-5-2 and Chiesa still isn't handed a start, some serious questions will need to be asked.

The Reds still have half a season to turn things around but at the moment, it's unclear whether they'll even manage to do that.

Chiesa still has a lot to offer Liverpool and unless Slot gives him a chance to prove his worth, it's unlikely for him to stick around at Anfield for much longer.
