The striker is being tipped to move to the US or Saudi Arabia
Robert Lewandowski’s future is generating plenty of debate as the veteran striker heads into the final months of his contract at Barcelona.
The 37-year-old is no longer a guaranteed starter at Barcelona and may well walk away as a free agent next summer.
Poland legend Zbigniew Boniek has been asked about the striker and thinks he’ll play for two more years before hanging up his boots.
“It’s an inevitable process. Robert is 37 and has aged a bit. As long as he keeps playing football, he’ll score goals, but he’s not the same player he was a few years ago. The captain is aging gracefully, and I hope to see him in the
United States or some Arab country next season. He’ll play two more years to earn some extra money,” he told TVP Sports.
MLS clubs Chicago Fire and Orlando City have been linked with Lewandowski already as well as AC Milan. Yet Boniek thinks Serie A would be a bad choice for Lewy.
“If he ended up at San Siro, he’d have problems. Playing in Italy is more difficult than in Spain. In my opinion, his signing for Milan doesn’t seem likely, especially because the Italians don’t pay as much as the Spanish,” he explained.
“Milan has Luka Modric, who’s 40, in midfield, but being a center forward in Serie A means constantly colliding with 190cm center-backs, elbowing, and committing fouls. I don’t know if that would be a challenge for Robert.
“Without a doubt, he is one of the best, and for some, the best Polish footballer in history, who has generated many positive emotions among the fans. And he will be the leader in this statistic for the next 100 years. He has been an incredible player and will be able to play for a while longer.”
