In just a few short days, the Indianapolis Colts will finally begin their long-awaited quarterback competition between Anthony Richardson and Daniel Jones.
Richardson, the No. 4 overall pick just two seasons ago, fell out of favor in the organization due to his rapidly expanding injury history and inconsistent play, which led Indy to bringing in Jones.
Battles for a starting spot, especially at quarterback, have a tendency to divide a locker room and make players feel like they need to choose sides.
This hasn’t been the case for Indianapolis though, and one of the team’s newest faces offered some perspective on how the situation is being handled.
The Colts made a concerted effort to bolster their defense this offseason as they made marquee signings at a number of positions.
One of those players was former Minnesota Vikings safety Cameron Bynum, who recently gave the scoop on how the competition is developing.
“Obviously, it’s an uncomfortable spot because you’re competing for one spot, but as a competitor, that’s what you want. You don’t want things given to you, so both quarterbacks are in there grinding, trying to earn their way to be the starter this year. Both are looking extremely well and playing well in the spring."
This isn’t the first time a current member of the roster has voiced their opinion on how the battle is unfolding and the responses have been overwhelmingly positive.
It seems as if the Colts are fostering a healthy, inclusive culture that builds up everyone on the team, regardless of their stature.
The competition is imminent, so we’ll find out soon enough whether the relationships remain friendly.
