Through his first seven games, Braeden Greenup is the No. 9 scorer in North Carolina high school basketball, according to MaxPreps. The 6-foot-2 guard’s 27.4 points are all the more impressive when you consider he is only a freshman.

”I’d say I’m a pretty well-rounded player,” Greenup told Rivals. “I’ve improved my ball handling and shooting from the outside, and I can see that in my game this year. I’m shooting the ball well.

“I watch a lot of DeMar DeRozan, and Carmelo (Anthony); just how they score in the mid range, and from three, you know, and getting to the hole strong.”

Greenup is also averaging 9.1 rebounds, 1.4 steals, and 2.0 blocks per game this season. Even being so young, Greenup’s play has not gone unnoticed by college coaches.

“I have an offer from Radford, and I’m getting pretty good interest from other colleges,” Greenup said.

Basketball is in Greenup’s DNA

“My mom [LesLee Greenup (nee Anderson)] is in the Hall of Fame at Shaw University,” Greenup said. “My dad (Anthony Greenup) was an All-American there and played for the Harlem Globetrotters. My aunt (Britney Anderson) played at Virginia Tech. My granddad (Les Anderson) is in the Hall of Fame at George Washington, and my grandmother also played college basketball, so everybody in my family played.

“I know, I get a lot of knowledge from everybody in my family. They’re just giving me different aspects of the game to learn from. I wouldn’t say I play like either of my parents.
I would say I can shoot like my mom, and I’m trying to get the jumping like my dad.”
