The Detroit Lions have won back-to-back NFC North Division titles and cemented themselves as a Super Bowl contender over the past two seasons.

Now, the Lions' forgotten man, David Montgomery, thinks it's time for Detroit to take another leap.

Montgomery spoke with media over the weekend and took the opportunity to send a warning to the Lions' 2025 opponents with training camp underway and Detroit gearing up for what could be one of the most memorable and important seasons in franchise history.

"The year of reckoning," Montgomery said to reporters about how he wants this season to be known.

"We're tired of being close. It's cool to be close at first, but you don't want to get comfortable with being close all the time," he added.

"You want to finish it. This is the year for us."

The powerful Lions running back has found a home in Detroit where he has improved his durability and dependability alongside rising star Jahmyr Gibbs.

Montgomery scored 12 touchdowns on the ground last season as Gibbs scored 16. Montgomery has scored double-digit touchdowns in back-to-back seasons with coach Dan Campbell's team.

He also added 36 receptions for 341 yards as the Lions became one of the best offensive teams int he National Football League with Jared Goff behind center as the team's quarterback.
