Jets head coach Aaron Glenn announced there will be no change at quarterback when the Jets host the Patriots in Week 17. Brady Cook will make his third start of the season.
It has been a struggle for Cook since he took over for an injured Tyrod Taylor in the Jets’ loss to the Miami Dolphins three weeks ago. Name the statistical category, and it doesn’t look good for Cook. His game against the Saints was particularly ugly for the undrafted rookie out of Missouri. Cook completed only 22 of 35 passes but only netted 188 yards. He also threw an interception and took 8 sacks, many of which were at least partially his fault.
Cook might be young, but he seems to be in over his head facing NFL defenses. As an undrafted rookie, the Jets don’t have anything invested in him. I don’t think it matters much which quarterback starts. The decision to stick with Cook will likely lead some to wonder, however, whether the Jets are leaning into tanking.
