Jordan Morgan looked the part in his first start at tackle for the Green Bay Packers in 2025.
Green Bay Packers 2024 first-round pick Jordan Morgan will likely be the team’s next starting left tackle in 2026, as current starter Rasheed Walker is set to become a free agent this offseason and will likely command a multi-year contract in the range of $20 million per year. With the Packers functionally having no cap space in 2026, even after accounting for a projected cap casualty release of center Elgton Jenkins, Morgan will more than likely slide into Walker’s spot next year (and for at least 2027, too).
Going into this week’s game against the Chicago Bears, though, Morgan had taken all of 28 snaps at right tackle this season. For the most part, Morgan had played guard, where he split time with Sean Rhyan, before Rhyan moved to the center position to replace the injured Jenkins. Once Morgan got the full-time job at right guard, following the Rhyan position change, the Packers quickly replaced Morgan, a true tackle-type lineman, with 2025 second-round pick Anthony Belton, who is more of an interior mauler.
With Zach Tom injured, though, Green Bay elected to start Morgan at right tackle versus the Bears, allowing for Darian Kinnard to play some tight end snaps in a game where the Packers only carried two tight ends on the 48-man gameday roster. As head coach Matt LaFleur put it after the game, Tom wasn’t close to suiting up in Chicago, which could mean that he’ll be missing another week with his knee injury.
So how did Morgan do in Tom’s place? Let’s take a look.
The video above shows all of Morgan’s true pass blocking reps versus the Bears, which excludes run plays with routes attached, screens and play action looks. Yes, it’s only a minute long. Football games have a lot of fluff compared to the actual action on the field.
Overall, Morgan started off really shaky, but adjusted quickly to the length of the Chicago defensive line and overall had a solid game. After the first few drives, the only major negative play he had was the sack of backup quarterback Malik Willis, a play in which I believe he was expecting to get chip help from running back Emanuel Wilson, but it never came.
