Statistical leaders for Monroe County Region baseball teams in 2025

Jaxon Millican of Ida, Noah Banas of Huron and Tre Eitniear of Whiteford lead Monroe County Region baseball teams in multiple statistical categories.

IDA – Jaxon Millican stood just 5 feet, 5 inches and weighed about 115 pounds when he came to Ida’s baseball team in 2022.

But coach Jimmy McMonagle saw something in the tiny freshman.

“Coming in as a freshman, he was kind of thrown into the mix because we were young and not very good,” McMonagle said. “We told him what we thought he could be by the time he was a senior. We told him everything it would take to make him bigger and stronger, how to do the right things. He really bought into that.”

Millican grew into a solid 6-3, 180-pound athlete.

The velocity of his pitches grew with his body.

“As a freshman, if he hit 70 (mph), that was probably good for him,” McMonagle said. “Now, he’s in the mid-80s or high 80s, if he needs to be. I heard he’s hit 90.”

Millican became a true ace for Ida this spring. He led the Monroe County Region in innings pitched (74), wins (10) and strikeouts (124). He also carried a 0.85 earned-run average.

Pitcher Jaxon Millican of Ida delivers the pitch during a 3-1 win over Brighton Charyl Stockwell in the Division 3 regional semifinals 3-1 on June 4, 2025.

“He’s a late bloomer,” McMonagle said. “It took him a while to grow into his body.”

McMonagle expects Millican to keep blooming next year when he joins the baseball program at Spring Arbor University.

“The best years of Jaxon’s career are yet to come,” the coach said. “When he gets into college, he’s going to eat up all the work they do day in and day out.”

Millican is starting his college career at the NAIA level, but could move up the ladder.

“Some D-I teams said they wanted him to walk on, but he got a good deal from Spring Arbor,” McMonagle said. “I told his parents If he’s that good, D-I schools will come calling with the transfer program.”

McMonagle would not be surprised to see Millican pitch beyond college.

“I’ve played with a couple of guys who played in the big leagues,” he said. “I told Jaxon that he’s better than those guys. I am excited to see what happens with him.”

Ida pitcher Jaxon Millican leaps up with joy with his teammates catcher Cam Riggs, Nolan Savett and Hunter Hemelgarn as they beat SMCC 5-4 in the Division 3 district final Saturday, May 31, 2025.

Millican led three of the five pitching statistical categories compiled by The Monroe News for the 2025 season.

Mikey Giroux of Flat Rock was the earned-run average champ at 0.41 and Ryan Zanger of Dundee, Adam Szalay of Flat Rock, Jayden Yancy of Flat Rock and Brady Decatur of St. Mary Catholic Central tied for the lead with three saves each.

Noah Banas of New Boston Huron was batting champ with a .510 average and also topped the Monroe County Region with 52 hits.

Whiteford’s Tre Eitniear led in doubles (18), home runs (5) and runs (46).

Cam Riggs of Ida set the pace in runs-batted-in with 45, six better than Banas.

Other leaders were Luke Beaudrie of Jefferson and Jude Flowers of Summerfield (39 stolen bases each), David Riddle of Flat Rock (4 triples), Matthew McBride of Gibraltar Carlson (28 walks) and Dean Thomas of Ida (13 hit by pitches).
