After Real Madrid’s 2–0 win over Sevilla, Kylian Mbappé spoke to Real Madrid TV about scoring on his birthday, his idol Cristiano Ronaldo, and the team’s objectives heading into 2026.
Playing and Scoring on His Birthday
Mbappé described the match as a special occasion, noting that playing on his birthday had long been a personal dream.
“It’s a special day because it’s my birthday. I’ve always said since I was little that it’s a dream to play a professional match on my birthday, and even more so for my dream team.”
“The goal was to finish the year with a win.”
59 Goals in 2025 and Tribute to Cristiano Ronaldo
Mbappé also commented on reaching 59 goals in 2025, equalling the achievement to Cristiano Ronaldo.
“Scoring 59 goals in 2025? It’s incredible, to do it in my first year like Cristiano, my idol, the best player in Real Madrid’s history.”
“The celebration is for him; I wanted to give him a shout-out because he’s always been good to me, he’s helped me adapt to Madrid.”
Mbappé added that the two maintain a close relationship.
“I have a very good relationship with him; he’s my friend now.”
He also extended holiday wishes to Ronaldo and Real Madrid supporters.
“I send him and all the Madrid fans my best wishes for a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.”
Team Form, Break, and Upcoming Objectives
Reflecting on recent league form, Mbappé acknowledged that performances had been difficult in recent matches.
“We had difficulty winning in the last few league matches.”
He said the upcoming break would be important for recovery before returning in 2026 with clear objectives.
“Now we’re going to have a vacation to rest and spend time with our families and come back in 2026 eager to win titles.”
Mbappé highlighted the Spanish Super Cup as the team’s first target after the break.
“We’re going to start with the Spanish Super Cup. It’s played quickly and we have to be ready.”
Message to the Fans
Mbappé closed by acknowledging the support of Real Madrid fans.
“They have always been with us, at the Bernabéu, and all Madrid fans around the world want the same thing in 2026.”
“We have to show that it’s not just talk and that we give everything for this badge.”
