Chelsea are monitoring the situation of centre back Jeremy Jacquet, but Rennes want to keep him this winter according to reports.
The Blues once again heavily invested in the summer, as they totally revamped their frontline with five new attacking signings.
The January window is fast approaching, but Chelsea reportedly aren’t looking to strengthen the squad, and it will likely be a quiet month.
Chelsea monitoring Rennes centre back Jeremy Jacquet
However, that hasn’t stopped Chelsea being linked with players, and the Blues have been linked with the likes of Kees Smit and Kobbie Mainoo.
Maresca wanted a new centre back in the summer to replace the injured Levi Colwill, but his wish wasn’t granted.
Jacquet is attracting attention from a number of top clubs.
However, Chelsea have been linked with Nottingham Forest’s Murillo, and it appears they have another defender on their radar.
Le Parisien have reported Chelsea are closely monitoring Rennes centre back Jacquet, with the Ligue 1 outfit desperate to keep hold of him in January.
The report adds whilst virtually all the top clubs are looking at the 20-year-old it’s Chelsea who are top of the list, with Rennes well aware of their interest.
Jaquet, who has previously been linked to Chelsea is a France under-21 international who’s under contract until 2029, and has made 14 appearances for Rennes this season.
Aaron Anselmino impressing at Borussia Dortmund
Whilst Jacquet is on Chelsea’s radar the Blues already have a talented young defender on their books in Aaron Anselmino.
The Argentine is impressing on loan at Borussia Dortmund, where he’s earned the praise of boss Niko Kovac , and it’s been reported Dortmund would like to sign him permanently.

However, Chelsea have insisted he’s not for sale, and if Anselmino continues to impress there’s no reason why he couldn’t find himself in the first team squad next season.
Chelsea also have Mamadou Sarr on loan at Strasbourg, who they are said to rate highly, and both he and Anselmino made their debut at the Club World Cup.
