Fernando Alonso marked his time off by planting a holm oak at the Circuit de Barcelona Catalunya as part of the venue's wider tree-planting sustainability drive
Two-time Formula 1 champion Fernando Alonso has been spending his time off at the Circuit de Barcelona Catalunya, planting a holm oak tree at Masia de la Moreneta beside the track.
"Our ambassador is also helping to keep the Circuit alive!" the circuit posted on social media, alongside photos of the 44-year-old driver digging and the plaque which has been placed beside the holm oak.
"Fernando Alonso has planted a holm oak next to the Masia de la Moreneta, joining the more than 200 trees we’ve recently added across different areas of the Circuit."

This comes after over 200 trees were planted in 16 zones around the circuit and in Montmeló’s Can Cabanyes Park, including stone pines, hackberries, holm oaks and oaks. The circuit organisers claimed that the trees planted would capture 200 tonnes of CO2 over the next 30 years, which is equivalent to the emissions generated by a car driving 850,000km or the combustion of 90,000 litres of petrol.
The Spanish driver was named ambassador for the Circuit de Barcelona Catalunya in May 2025. "It is an honour and a privilege, and I am very happy to be an ambassador for Circuit de Barcelona Catalunya, which is so special to me and to all Spanish fans, and which has given us so much joy," Alonso said at the time.
"It is a circuit that is closely linked to my career because it was the first one where I tested a single-seater, when I was still in karting. It is the track where I have definitely driven the most laps in my entire life, from F1 pre-season tests to races and other activities that have taken place there."
The 2026 Barcelona-Catalunya Grand Prix is set to take place from 12 to 14 June with the Spanish Grand Prix moving to Madrid from next year.
