Former Man Utd midfielder makes bold claim about Andre Onana

A Manchester United legend has spoken about the current team and their goalkeeper.

Manchester United haven't ruled out signing a new goalkeeper, with the club still looking at Emiliano Martinez.

Andre Onana has been shaky to say the least, and his injury is keeping him out of an important preseason for the club.

The goalkeeper has faced massive amounts of criticism, and former United midfielder Gordon Strachan has weighed in on the Cameroonian keeper.

What did Strachan claim about Onana?

Strachan spoke to OLBG about former club and was asked whether the team could win titles with Onana in goal.

The Scotsman said, " When I've been successful anywhere, I've had goalkeepers with personality and presence.

"Whether it’s a physical presence, a personality presence—that is always needed in the team."

Strachan won numerous titles throughout his career, including a 1985 FA Cup with United.

He continued, "When they walk down the tunnel and they see a goalie in front of them with a physical presence, a personality presence, then you think, thank goodness he's there.

"The goalkeeper there now, I don't think he's got either of them. I don't think he's got a physical presence and I don't think he's got this personality presence."

Onana has made mulitple errors that have led to goals since the start of the 2024/25 season, two of which came against Lyon in the Europa League.

Strachan pointed out Onana's faults, saying, "He looks like he's constantly at war with himself worrying about making a mistake and that he might have to go somewhere else to get that confidence back."
