Juventus may have Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg as their top target to bolster the midfield, but Olympique Marseille have no interest in discussing his transfer. President Pablo Longoria made it clear during a presser (via Mediaset).
“There’s no discussion. Our stance for January is firm. Nothing is going on, and there’s no chance he’ll leave. It’s not an option. I completely shut the door.”
According to Alfredo Pedullà, Juventus like Hojbjerg a lot, but their pursuit has never had legs, since he’s an indispensable player for coach Roberto De Zerbi. He’s also a locker room leader, in addition to being valuable on the pitch.
The Bianconeri will have a hard time luring cornerstones from other sides in the upcoming window. In addition, they aren’t planning to make a splash. They have to navigate some Financial Fair Play constraints, La Gazzetta dello Sport informs.
Davide Frattesi is more gettable given his small role at Inter, but he’s not cheap either, Quotidiano Sportivo informs. They could try for Xaver Schlager, who’s in their crosshairs for a Bosman transfer. The Old Lady will have more room to maneuver during the summer. Nicolas Gonzalez and Douglas Luiz are both likely to stay at Atletico Madrid and Nottingham Forest permanently.
Our Take on Juventus and Hojbjerg
It always looked like a far-fetched proposition, as teams need to be bowled over with major offers to agree to sell a linchpin in January, and they don’t seem in a position to do that. On the other hand, they surely need at need two new pieces: a fullback and either a defender or a midfielder, depending on how Gleison Bremer holds up and where they want to use Teun Koopmeiners.
