Former five-star quarterback DJ Lagway has entered the transfer portal, needing a fresh start after two seasons at Florida.
Lagway, who starred at Willis (Texas) High School and was one of the nation’s top recruits in the 2024 class, took over the Gators’ offense as a freshman and flashed playmaking ability. In 2025, he threw for 2,264 yards with 16 touchdowns, but also dealt with inconsistency and injuries that kept his production inconsistent.
Florida’s 2025 campaign was marked by bad finishes and shifting offensive dynamics. Lagway’s decision to transfer coincides with broader changes in the program, including leadership turnover is a prime example of the college quarterback landscape this offseason.
Lagway’s recruitment on the portal is expected to attract interest from several Power Five schools, particularly programs in need of a dual-threat passer with high-end rhythm. Early chatter includes potential suitors from the Big 12 and SEC, with NIL opportunities also playing a role in his decision-making process.
According to On3'sPeteNakos, there are four schools in the mix to land Lagway. Going home to Baylor isn’t far-fetched. Being at LSU with Lane Kiffin would present a nightmare scenario for the rest of the conference. Louisville and Miami are also on the short list of possibilities.
While Lagway’s college numbers have not fully matched his high school hype, his talent and upside keep him near the top of the portal’s quarterback rankings.
As the official transfer window opens in early January, Lagway’s next move will be closely watched by those eager to see where the former top recruit lands.
