This is a new one…
Colorado’s basketball game against the Portland State Vikings will still happen as scheduled on Wednesday evening, but with a major twist: no fans will be in attendance.
University officials made the difficult choice to play the game behind closed doors for public safety concerns, as winds have reached well upwards of 30 miles per hour in Boulder and power outages have swept across the city.
‘We apologize for the inconvenience but in the interest of fan safety and to conserve public safety personnel resources, we determined that it was in the best interest of our fans and our teams to play tonight’s game without fans,“ wrote a university spokesperson in a statement on Wednesday afternoon.
According to the university, Fans who had tickets to the contest will be given a promo-code to claim a free ticket to CU’s next home game against Northern Colorado on Sunday, Dec. 28.
The good news is that fans will still be able to tune into tonight’s game, just unfortunately not in person. Buffaloes vs. Vikings will be broadcast on ESPN+ as per usual. Tipoff is slated for 7:00 p.m local time.
