State champion Spring Hill Baseball team celebrated with monument unveiling and ring ceremony

LONGVIEW, Texas (KETK) — Six months ago, the Spring Hill Panthers dogpiled at Dell Diamond in Round Rock after winning their first-ever baseball state title in a 5-3 victory over Wimberley in the 4A-D2 state championship game.

On Wednesday night, the champs were back together for a state championship monument unveiling at Spring Hill Baseball Park and ring ceremony at Spring Hill High School’s Gym.

A year after losing in heartbreaking fashion to Calallen in the state semifinals, Spring Hill beat Wimberley to capture their first-ever state title.

The Panthers went 35-7 on the season, winning their final five games after dropping game one of their regional final series against Carthage, to make history on the diamond.

Spring Hill head baseball coach Garrett Methvin, who starred for the Panthers back in high school, and his players said they’ll never forget their state championship season and it’s special to join in celebrating their state title run on the diamond.

“It’s very special for us as a team and a program but it’s even more special for the school district of Spring Hill and getting to bring a state title to our school district and it’s…we’ve been blessed to be here. God’s been good to us and it’s special to see all the guys coming back and everybody, the community turning out and showing up and getting together. That just kinda speaks volumes to what this community is and what it means to the community to do this. We’re just, we’re very blessed to be where we are and to get to enjoy this together. Christmastime everybody’s gathering anyway but it’s kind of like unwrapping a nice present at the end of the year,” Methvin said.

“It’s just kind of like fulfilling what we knew we could do. Like the year before we were like, ‘Ok, we’re almost there.’ That year it was just all about finishing the job and getting to where we know we could’ve been,” former Spring Hill right-handed pitcher and first baseman Cayson Wilkins said. “It’s great. We’ve been pretty good at baseball in the past and finally being able to get over that hump. It’s just doing everything we could to help out the school.”

“It is special. Man, being a part of this team, like, there’s nothing like it. Coming from two years ago falling short and then this year just get back up and winning state is just incredible, and to see that we’re still celebrating and doing this monument it’s great to be here,” former Spring Hill player and team manager Colby Withrow said.
