With the Guardians in the midst of a down season, it’s possible that Jose Ramirez could be on the table
The Cleveland Guardians could be in position to be sellers at the trade deadline. A new trade proposal would be perhaps the most shocking move yet should it happen.
SNY’s John Harper suggested a Hail Mary of trade proposals that includes superstar third baseman Jose Ramirez. Harper proposed that the New York Yankees could be in play for the Guardians’ star. In exchange? One of the Yankees’ top prospects, Spencer Jones.
“As beloved as Ramirez is in Cleveland, he turns 33 in September, with three more years on his contract,” Harper said. “ And with the Guardians going nowhere this season they may see this as a chance to reload, depending on how highly they regard Jones, the Yankees’ power-hitting outfield prospect.”
The Guardians — with a record of 49-50 — have been inconsistent this season, but that hasn’t stopped Ramirez. The Guardians’ superstar has been his usual self this season, hitting .294 with 20 home runs, 55 RBI’s and a .885 OPS. Now entering the latter half of his career, it is possible that the Guardians will at least listen to offers.
On the other hand, Spencer Jones is a top three prospect in the Yankees’ farm system, and is tearing up the minor leagues this year. In time spent between Double-A and Triple-A, Jones is hitting .317 with 26 home runs, 52 RBI’s and a 1.106 OPS. Since reaching Triple-A, Jones has been otherworldly, hitting .426 with 10 home runs, 20 RBI’s and a 1.422 OPS in just 16 games.
