Midseason addition Toni Bilic won’t play for Illinois this season

He’s only going to practice.

Midseason reinforcements are here.

Illinois officially announced Tuesday night that Toni Bilic is joining the Illini effective immediately, but he will not play in any games.

The 6-foot-8 inch, 210-pound forward/wing from Croatia will participate in practice and “focus on strength training and development,” the program announced in a statement.

“Toni is a multi-positional, skilled player who we are excited to have join us in practice,” said head coach Brad Underwood in a statement. “He comes from a basketball family; he has good feel for the game and a high IQ. He is a downhill, slasher type player with a high motor. Toni will jump in right away with Coach Fletch in the weight room; he has a high ceiling and is ready to get to work.”

Bilic most recently played in the Favbet Premier League in Croatia and competed for Croatia at the U18 FIBA European Championship in 2023.
