Pat Flaherty was Rutgers football's offensive line coach for the past three seasons.
PISCATAWAY – Rutgers football will have a new offensive line coach in 2026.
Head coach Greg Schiano said Tuesday, Dec. 16 that Pat Flaherty, who held the role for the past three seasons, will not be returning next season.
Flaherty's contract is expiring and will not be renewed.
Flaherty, who won two Super Bowls while working as the New York Giants’ offensive line coach under Tom Coughlin from 2004-15, was a consultant in 2022 before joining the staff full time.
He was highly respected by the Scarlet Knights’ offensive linemen, who frequently spoke about the knowledge and insight they valued gaining from someone with Flaherty’s experience.
Flaherty, 69, played a major role in helping to stabilize a unit that had struggled in the early seasons of Schiano’s second stint as head coach.
He helped develop multiple players who became integral members of the line, including Hollin Pierce, Gus Zilinskas, Kobe Asamoah and Bryan Felter, among others.
Flaherty’s departure leaves another hole in Schiano’s coaching staff – he also needs a new defensive coordinator after dismissing co-coordinators Robb Smith and Zach Sparber, as well as a new defensive line coach after firing Colin Ferrell.
