Yoane Wissa is set to hold talks with Brentford over his future after the club rejected an offer from Newcastle United in the summer transfer window.

The forward has been linked with moves to the Magpies, Tottenham Hotspur and Nottingham Forest following an impressive campaign for the Bees.

Wissa played a major role in Brentford finishing inside the top ten of the Premier League for the first time ever, scoring 19 goals and providing four assists in the top flight last season.

The 28-year-old is reportedly “unsettled” by all of the speculation, as BBC Sport report that he has left their pre-season training camp in Portugal.

Wissa has returned to London to “hold talks” with Brentford director of football Phil Giles, the outcome of which is “likely to be pivotal” towards how Brentford approach a resolution.

Spying an opportunity to swoop in and grab one of their transfer targets, Newcastle have made a “proposal” worth £25 million for the striker, according to The Athletic.

Brentford have rejected the offer, valuing the player at over £50m, but the Tyneside outfit’s “pursuit is ongoing”, while personal terms are said to not be an issue.

Newcastle have missed out on a number of targets this summer, including Joao Pedro, Bryan Mbeumo and Hugo Ekitike, as they bid to strengthen their frontline.

Brentford are keen to hold onto Wissa after losing key men, such as Mbeumo to Manchester United and Christian Norgaard to Arsenal as well as manager Thomas Frank to Spurs. With his current deal set to expire next summer, the club recently attempted to open contract talks, but he is said to prefer a move away from the Gtech Community Stadium.

Update:Ben Jacobs reports that Newcastle are “optimistic” they can land Wissa with a bid “in excess of £30m” after their first offer was turned down “in the last 48 hours”. The player is said to be “open” to a move to either Newcastle or Spurs.
