Report: Southampton ‘interested’ in Bayern Munich’s Daniel Peretz

Could the Championship side provide an out for the unhappy FC Bayern loanee?

Sometimes a loan is a platform to accelerate a player’s development and sometimes it just does not work out.

Bayern Munich goalkeeper Daniel Peretz’s temporary assignment at Hamburger SV appears to fall in the latter camp. The 25-year-old has only made two appearances all season for Hamburg, both in the DFB-Pokal, while Daniel Heuer Fernandes retains the starting spot he has held for the last four seasons there. Incidentally, the last time he was dislodged it was also by a Bayern keeper, Sven Ulreich, who had left the club in the 2020/21 season.

Peretz has not managed to do the same, however, and he is in need of a new home. He may find that in the English second flight. From a report in Sport Bild, as captured by @iMiaSanMia:

Championship side Southampton are interested in Daniel Peretz. Bayern are looking for a new loan destination for Peretz after the HSV move didn’t go as the club and the goalkeeper were hoping [@cfbayern]

At Bayern, Peretz start five times in all competitions last season. Surely he did not expect playing time to be even harder to come by at recently-promoted Hamburg.

Southampton’s goalkeeper situation is currently unsettled, having tried out both Alex McCarthy and Gavin Bazunu. They do have a certain Aaron Ramsdale under contract, but the England international and former Arsenal No. 1 is currently on loan in the Premier League at Newcastle United.
